Most couches look balanced with 3 to 5 throw pillows, mixing two or three sizes rather than a uniform matching set. Larger sofas can handle more without feeling cluttered, while loveseats usually look best with 2 to 3.
18 to 20-inch pillows are the standard size for most couches, giving enough presence without overwhelming the seat. Larger sofas or deeper seat cushions often look better with 22- to 24-inch pillows mixed in.
Neutral tones like cream, mustard, or terracotta add warmth without clashing with grey, while deep blues or greens create more contrast. Sticking to two or three coordinating colors usually looks more intentional than matching every pillow exactly.
A lumbar pillow is a rectangular pillow, typically wider than it is tall, designed to support the lower back or add a horizontal accent among square pillows. It's commonly placed at the center or ends of a sofa arrangement for visual balance.
Most throw pillows with a removable cover can be washed by removing the cover and machine-washing it on a gentle cycle; generally, spot-clean the insert instead. If the cover isn't removable, check the care label first, since some fabrics and fillings don't hold up well in a machine.

Furniture with an upholstery made of structural fabric should be cleaned once a week or every two weeks. Gently brush it with a soft brush or use a vacuum cleaner on a low setting with a special upholstery attachment. This way, you can remove dust and dirt without allowing them to penetrate deeper. 1-2 times a year, thoroughly refresh the upholstery made of structural fabric. Wipe the entire fabric with a wet solution of a neutral cleaning agent, such as dishwashing liquid mixed with water. Then, wipe it again with a clean, damp sponge or cloth to remove any detergent residue. Allow it to air dry naturally. You can also use special upholstery cleaning products for fabric. Follow the manufacturer's instructions when using such products. In case of staining or spills, gently blot the liquid with a dry cloth or paper towel. To remove dirt from mud, ketchup, mayonnaise, yogurt, or lipstick, delicately gather the remnants of the substance. For cleaning the sofa, use gentle and neutral detergents like dishwashing liquid or mild soap, mixed with lukewarm water in the proportions: one teaspoon of detergent to two cups of water. Strong cleaners and bleaches can damage the upholstery. Avoid attempting to remove stains, especially organic ones, with hot water, as it may set the stains. Clean the soiled surface slowly in circular motions, from the outer edges of the stain towards its center. This way, you won't spread the stain further. Avoid vigorous and forceful rubbing to prevent damaging the fabric's structure. If necessary, repeat the cleaning process, widening the cleaned area around the stained spot to prevent watermarks. Before starting the cleaning, perform a spot test of the cleaning agent on an inconspicuous part of the furniture to avoid damaging the fabric. After removing the stain, let the fabric air dry at room temperature. Do not use a hairdryer or any other direct source of heat. During this time, avoid sitting on the sofa as the upholstery may deform.
